Dog sitting was fun for 10 days but it is time to kayaking for fun instead ! It sure is nice to be home. Now I can get back to the routine I have normally and enjoy some kayaking. I am a bit spoiled as here in Peachland as I can launch my kayak right off Beach Avenue and it takes hardly any travel time at all.
The beaches are all rocky, and although I enjoy sand between my toes, it ‘s kind of nice not to have sand all over your equipment every time you use it.
Also the beaches are easy to navigate on foot and putting your kayak in is a breeze. So yes, I would say I am spoiled. Good for me haha!
It is still cool out, and the water is quite cold so I make certain to dress up. I use gloves, and always
have a toque available but didn’t have to use it today. I have Harley Davidson water covers on my legs to keep any water from the paddle strokes from penetrating my fleece pants. Also, I use a neoprene kayak boot that comes up to just under my knees. These have great grip, small footprint so you can get in and out of the craft easily, and best of all are waterproof and keep your feet warm. I’ll do a writeup on them soon, they extended my season last year by a month, and I was out on the water in early March this spring so they give me about 3 extra months of kayaking.
The water was totally calm, and reflected the mountains on the far side of the lake as well as the trees on the near side. There are photos of both for you to enjoy. I met a pair of Loons, and I always keep my distance from birds so as to not disturb them, but usually Loons don’t spook easily, but today they did. I suppose it is because I am on of the very few kayakers they have seen this year. There also was a triad of mallard ducks, with the usual two drakes to one hen ratio. They didn’t stick around either, although unlike the diving Loons, the Mallards took to the wing!
Calm water always gives us great reflections to enjoy, and this morning was no exception. i took a picture of the foliage just coming out from trees along the water, and it was beautiful. My camera doesn’t do that beauty the justice it deserves. Even so, I think it’s an awesome picture and am glad to share it with you.
