So this is me, Doug. I was hiking up SouthRidge Trail close to my place on the mountainside. This trail is nice and close to my home, and I can be on it in 30 seconds. How cool is that ! Note the hi-viz vest. There are hunters in the backwoods area as it is archery and blackpowder season. Hence, I do not wish to be mistaken for Bambi or Yogi. Speaking of Yogi, note the bells. I also have other items that I’ll write about in another post.
This spot is so beautiful. Behind me is Lake Okanagan. You see this for the first part of the trail. If a guy ever got disoriented out here, just head downhill and you’ll get to go for a swim sometime soon lol. You can see the eastern mountainside, and today it was covered in cloud. The weather patterns are like a work of art out here, and where I was hiking, and where I live, we are above some of the systems that come into the valley. That allows us some terrific opportunities to watch the weather do it’s thing.
This is the trail where I stopped to take these pictures. It is a trail that you can ATV on, and is just wide enough to accommodate a quad. I wouldn’t want to try a side-by-side on them. Lots of loose rock on these trails, showing that some folks have build them up. I met one of the guys who did a lot of work years ago when they first made this trail. More on trails and trailbuilding later!
Hiking and Replacement Hips
Hiking can be a fantastic activity for people with hip replacements, offering a wealth of benefits for both physical and mental well-being. Here’s an overview of why:
Gentle on the joints:
Unlike high-impact activities like running or jumping, hiking is a low-impact exercise. This means it puts minimal stress on the hip joint, reducing the risk of pain, inflammation, or implant loosening. The varied terrain and natural inclines also work various muscle groups, strengthening them and supporting the joint.
Improves range of motion:
Hiking naturally encourages you to move your hips through a wider range of motion, which can help to improve flexibility and prevent stiffness. This is especially important after a hip replacement, as regaining full range of motion is crucial for optimal function.
